OSINT, Journalism and the Modern Audience
8th November 2024 - UK OSINT Community Seminar
As part of the UK OSINT Community's 'OSINT Week', we are holding a seminar in Central London themed around OSINT within the investigative journalism field.
The title of our event is ''OSINT, Journalism and the Modern Audience'.
Both open source intelligence (OSINT) and investigative journalism suffer rapid (and radical) redefinition in a world of changing technology and audience needs. So where do we go from here? What is the relationship between the two, and how can journalists harness OSINT techniques (and vice versa)?
We've brought together OSINT experts and investigative journalists at the forefront of this ever converging discipline.
This is part of the UK OSINT Seminar Series.
Our speakers include:
Eliot Higgins, Founder of Bellingcat
Eliot founded of Bellingcat in 2014, an open source intelligence journalism group specialising in investigative journalism. Eliot's work spans from topical geopolitical conflicts to detailing OSINT tools and techniques. His book, 'We Are Bellingcat', is a Sunday Times Bestseller.
The Financial Times remarks 'John le Carré demystified the intelligence services; Higgins has demystified intelligence gathering itself . . . Higgins is one of the internet's good guys - a champion of truth in a post-truth world'.
Nadine Naguib, Managing Director of NEON Century
NEON Century is an intelligence consultancy based in London who apply cutting-edge open-source intelligence capabilities to conduct ethical investigations for geopolitical, commercial and cyber projects. Nadine has recently be named a Recommended Security, Intelligence & Investigations Adviser 2024 in Spear's Magazine.
Dr Richard Danbury, Senior Lecturer in Journalism, City St George's University of London
Dr Danbury is an academic lawyer, a journalist and a former criminal barrister. He directs the City University MA in investigative journalism. Richard has sat on the Ethical Justice Network’s UK Committee of advisors since its inception in 2021. He has worked for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and The Guardian in various capacities.
...plus a Special Guest.
In contrast to the UK OSINT Unplugged Series (informal networking), the UK OSINT Seminar Series brings together our community for theoretical and practical insights, drawing on expertise across our membership and beyond.
